Weapons, Armor, Clothing and Enchanting
At the end of our prolog the character (post change to a true female) Zev/Yu joins a classic D&D style party, and they go and do a classical adventure fantasy adventure run. But it’s not the medieval age, smartphones and gun exists so how do we resolve not just ending every fight with bang.
It’s the modern day so things like guns would exist, so say as a warrior your wearing a kevlar vest, but only melee weapons and less complex stuff like bows can be enchanted. Basically think of all the moving parts on a gun, the way enchanting works it it enchants a specific object, once you start adding different parts then you need a new enchant for that part. So like you could enchant the trigger to fire faster or just make the gun automatic as only the trigger is enchanted. But a bow shaft or sword blade with +1 damage or flames that produces much more practical results. That's not to say that the different parts of simple weapons can’t have different enchants like the sword blade does extra damage but the handle/grip adds comfort, bow body makes you move faster when drawn but the string adds fire to arrows, etc, its just things like guns have a lot more moving parts and enchanting just the part relevant means disassembling it and then reassembling it.
So with simple but enchanted weapons and powerful but complex weapon we have a problem. A good sword is going to cut through a cloth/kever vest like a hot knife so under the kevlar, we add a chainmail tunic to stop the sword. And that’s sorta how things work, its a modern setting with a party of mercenaries but we thrown in the old fantasy tropes and elements as secondary.
